Texas Instruments TMS38030GBL-8 Decapped Token Ring Controller Gold Lead Ceramic IC Collectible
Full Description & History
Texas Instruments TMS38030GBL-8 vintage Token Ring system interface controller in a ceramic 100-pin package with gold-colored leads. The package has been opened to expose the original silicon die, bond wires, and internal ceramic construction.
Markings include TMS38030GBL-8, WU8839, 8202014, and Philippines. The WU8839 marking is consistent with 1988 week 39 production.
This example is being offered primarily as a semiconductor collectible, exposed-die display specimen, computer networking artifact, microscopy subject, or educational example of late-1980s integrated circuit construction.
Lifecycle: OBSOLETE
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The TMS38030 was part of Texas Instruments’ TMS380 chipset developed for IEEE 802.5 Token Ring local area networking during the 1980s. The TMS38030 functioned as the system interface and DMA controller between the host computer and the Token Ring adapter architecture.
It was designed to operate alongside devices including the TMS38010 Communications Processor, TMS38020 Protocol Handler, and TMS38051/TMS38052 Ring Interface circuits to form a complete Token Ring network adapter.
The TMS38030GBL-8 was produced in a ceramic package intended for high-density digital systems of the period. Its exposed silicon die, fine internal bonding structure, ceramic body, and gold-colored leads make this opened example particularly interesting for collectors of vintage computer hardware, semiconductor technology, and early networking electronics.
Legacy or discontinued stock no longer in normal production flow. Future supply may be limited.
Pipeline quantities are informational and may change after arrival, inspection, sorting, testing, or donor teardown.
