Full Description & History

Vintage ceramic hybrid integrated circuit marked A502215 with visible date code 8827. The package has been decapped, exposing the internal semiconductor dies, interconnect structure, and fine bond wires. The device also features gold-colored plated leads around the ceramic package.

This piece is being offered primarily as a semiconductor collectible, display specimen, microscopy subject, electronics-history artifact, or educational example of late-1980s hybrid microelectronic construction.

Lifecycle: obsolete

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Ceramic hybrid and multi-chip microcircuits were widely used in military, aerospace, industrial, telecommunications, instrumentation, and other specialized electronics where multiple semiconductor elements could be assembled inside a durable ceramic package. Gold bonding and gold-plated package connections were commonly used in higher-reliability microelectronic assemblies because of their corrosion resistance and dependable electrical connection characteristics.

The visible 8827 marking is consistent with a 1988 week-27 manufacturing date-code format, although the manufacturer and original equipment application of this particular device have not been verified. The A502215 marking may represent a custom, internal, or application-specific part number rather than a standard commercial IC designation.
