Texas Instruments SN74ALS02N Quad 2-Input NOR Gate DIP-14 HP 1820-2739 El Salvador
Full Description & History
Texas Instruments SN74ALS02N Advanced Low-Power Schottky TTL logic IC in a 14-pin DIP package. This device contains four independent 2-input NOR gates used in digital logic, control, switching, interface, instrumentation, computing, and general-purpose logic applications.
This version is marked EL SALVADOR and carries Texas Instruments part number SN74ALS02N together with Hewlett-Packard house part number 1820-2739. The photographed example carries production marking 340A.
Sold as one individual IC per purchase.
The SN74ALS02N belongs to the 74ALS Advanced Low-Power Schottky TTL family, developed to reduce power consumption while maintaining useful switching performance for commercial and industrial digital systems.
Lifecycle: DISCONTINUED.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The 7400-series TTL family became one of the most important standardized logic families in the history of digital electronics. Beginning in the 1960s, engineers used individual standardized logic ICs to construct computers, test instruments, communications equipment, industrial controls, calculators, laboratory equipment, and countless other digital systems.
The 7402 function is a quad 2-input NOR gate. Four independent NOR gates are contained within one standard 14-pin dual-inline package. NOR gates are fundamental logic elements and can be combined to perform control, gating, timing, state, switching, and other digital functions.
The 74ALS family represented an evolution of conventional TTL technology. ALS stands for Advanced Low-Power Schottky. This generation was designed to provide lower power consumption than earlier TTL technologies while retaining useful operating speed and the familiar 7400-series functional architecture.
This particular device is especially relevant to vintage Hewlett-Packard repair because it also carries HP house part number 1820-2739. Hewlett-Packard routinely assigned internal part numbers to commercial semiconductor devices used throughout its test equipment, instrumentation, computing systems, communications equipment, and other electronic products.
Vintage HP service manuals and parts lists may identify a semiconductor by the Hewlett-Packard house number rather than only by the original manufacturer's commercial designation. An original device carrying both SN74ALS02N and HP 1820-2739 markings can therefore be particularly useful when identifying or restoring original Hewlett-Packard equipment.
Texas Instruments manufactured and assembled semiconductor products at multiple international facilities, including operations in El Salvador during the period when large quantities of TTL logic ICs were being produced for OEM and industrial electronics.
Original examples such as this are useful today for vintage equipment repair, period-correct restoration, legacy digital systems, test-equipment servicing, and maintaining equipment designed around classic TTL logic.
Unused new old stock from legacy inventory. Packaging, age, and cosmetic condition may vary.
Pipeline quantities are informational and may change after arrival, inspection, sorting, testing, or donor teardown.
