Full Description & History

95 PCS TDK C1608X5R1E106M080AC multilayer ceramic chip capacitors in the compact 0603 surface-mount package.

These capacitors have a nominal capacitance of 10 uF with an X5R ceramic dielectric and 25 VDC rating. The M tolerance code indicates a nominal capacitance tolerance of ±20%.

The 0603 package measures approximately 1.6 x 0.8 mm and provides a surprisingly high capacitance value for such a small surface-mount component. These capacitors are well suited to power-supply decoupling, bypassing, filtering, regulator circuits, digital electronics, communications equipment, control boards, embedded systems, and general PCB repair.

X5R is a Class II ceramic dielectric intended for applications requiring high capacitance in a compact package. It provides stable operation across its specified temperature range while allowing substantially greater capacitance density than precision C0G or NP0 ceramic dielectrics.

The original manufacturer packaging identifies TDK, Made in Japan, and date code 2148, corresponding to production during the 48th week of 2021. The package documentation is dated February 18, 2022.

LIFECYCLE STATUS: ACTIVE

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
TDK was founded in Japan in 1935 and became one of the most important manufacturers of magnetic materials and passive electronic components in the global electronics industry.

The company originally became known for ferrite materials and later expanded into capacitors, inductors, filters, sensors, recording media, power components, and numerous other electronic technologies.

Multilayer ceramic capacitors, commonly called MLCCs, became increasingly important as electronic equipment moved toward smaller circuit boards and automated surface-mount manufacturing.

An MLCC is constructed from many extremely thin alternating layers of ceramic dielectric and internal metal electrodes. Stacking these layers allows manufacturers to achieve much greater capacitance than would be practical with a single ceramic layer while keeping the physical component extremely small.

The 0603 package became one of the most widely adopted surface-mount sizes in modern electronics. At only about 1.6 x 0.8 mm, it allows very dense PCB layouts while remaining suitable for automated placement on high-volume electronic assemblies.

Achieving 10 uF in a 0603 ceramic package represents the continuing evolution of MLCC manufacturing. Earlier ceramic capacitors of similar physical size typically offered far lower capacitance, while improvements in ceramic materials and multilayer fabrication allowed manufacturers to place increasingly large capacitance values into miniature packages.

X5R dielectric became particularly important in power-supply bypassing and decoupling applications because it provides high capacitance density in a small footprint. These capacitors are commonly positioned close to integrated circuits, regulators, processors, and other devices to stabilize local power rails and reduce electrical noise.

Modern MLCCs such as the C1608X5R1E106M080AC are found throughout communications equipment, computers, automotive-support electronics, industrial systems, consumer products, embedded electronics, power-management circuits, and countless modern PCB assemblies.

These particular components are original Japanese TDK stock carrying a 2021 production code.
