Texas Instruments SN7430N Vintage 8-Input NAND Gate TTL IC 1974 Gold-Pin DIP
Full Description & History
Vintage Texas Instruments SN7430N TTL logic integrated circuit in a 14-pin DIP package with gold-colored plated leads.
The SN7430N contains a single 8-input positive NAND gate from the classic 7400-series TTL logic family. It was designed for digital decoding, gating, control logic, state detection, sequencing, and other applications where multiple logic conditions must be combined into a single output.
The device carries the marking 7443, consistent with a production date code for the 43rd week of 1974.
The gold-colored plated leads are characteristic of semiconductor packaging from this era and add period interest for restoration and collecting. The SN7430N designation identifies the commercial-temperature version of this classic TTL logic device.
LIFECYCLE STATUS: DISCONTINUED
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Texas Instruments was one of the major companies responsible for establishing transistor-transistor logic, commonly known as TTL, as a dominant digital electronics technology during the 1960s and 1970s. The SN7400-series became one of the most widely recognized families of standardized digital logic integrated circuits ever produced.
7400-series logic devices were used extensively in computers, industrial controls, telecommunications equipment, test instruments, calculators, consumer electronics, arcade hardware, and countless other digital systems. Engineers could combine standardized gates, counters, flip-flops, decoders, multiplexers, and related devices to construct complex digital circuitry long before modern programmable logic and microcontrollers became commonplace.
The SN7430 provided a single NAND gate with eight separate logic inputs. This made it useful for circuits that needed to determine when a specific combination of multiple digital signals was present. Typical applications included address decoding, control-state detection, enable and inhibit functions, machine sequencing, and other digital control tasks.
NAND gates occupy an important place in digital electronics because NAND is considered a universal logic function. Complex Boolean operations can be constructed entirely from NAND gates, making devices such as the SN7430 fundamental building blocks of early digital systems.
During the early and mid-1970s, sophisticated electronic equipment was commonly assembled from large numbers of individual small-scale and medium-scale integration logic devices. Components like the SN7430 performed functions that today might be incorporated inside a single programmable device or microcontroller.
The 7443 date marking on this device is consistent with production during the 43rd week of 1974, placing it directly within the original era of widespread TTL-based electronic design.
Original-period SN7430N devices remain useful for vintage computer restoration, industrial electronics repair, communications equipment, laboratory instrumentation, educational collections, and other applications where maintaining the original logic family, electrical characteristics, package style, and period appearance is important.
Legacy or discontinued stock no longer in normal production flow. Future supply may be limited.
Pipeline quantities are informational and may change after arrival, inspection, sorting, testing, or donor teardown.
