ITT 7406J Hex Inverter Buffer Open-Collector TTL Logic IC DIP-14 Arcade Repair NOS 1 PCS
Full Description & History
1 PCS original ITT 7406J TTL logic integrated circuit in a 14-pin DIP package. Device is marked ITT, 7406 J, with production marking 7550.
The 7406 contains six independent inverting buffer/driver stages with open-collector outputs. Unlike a basic 7404 inverter, the 7406 was designed for applications requiring stronger interface capability and external pull-up arrangements, making it useful for driving indicators, interface lines, control circuits, and other loads from TTL logic.
This vintage 7400-series device was used in digital control, interfacing, arcade electronics, computers, industrial equipment, instrumentation, and other early logic systems.
LIFECYCLE: OBSOLETE. The original ITT-manufactured 7406J is a discontinued legacy semiconductor. Compatible 7406-type logic functions have existed from other manufacturers, but original ITT devices from this production era are no longer current-production components.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The 7406 belongs to the classic 7400-series TTL logic family that became a foundation of digital electronics during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
Unlike ordinary inverter gates, the 7406 combines logic inversion with open-collector driver outputs. This allowed designers to interface TTL logic with loads and signal lines that required external pull-up resistors or higher-voltage switching capability than ordinary TTL gate outputs could provide.
Devices of this type became useful in arcade machines and other early digital systems for interfacing logic sections, driving control lines, handling peripheral signals, operating indicator circuitry, and connecting TTL logic to loads outside the normal logic-level environment.
Classic arcade boards frequently used combinations of standard 7400-series TTL devices for game control, video support, timing, memory interfacing, input/output handling, and peripheral-driver functions. A 7406-family device could therefore serve an important role on vintage arcade and computer boards requiring open-collector inverter drivers.
Exact semiconductor manufacturer originally installed on a particular board could vary. This ITT 7406J should be treated as a vintage replacement where a compatible 7406 TTL open-collector inverter/driver is specified.
Legacy or discontinued stock no longer in normal production flow. Future supply may be limited.
Pipeline quantities are informational and may change after arrival, inspection, sorting, testing, or donor teardown.
Compatible Radios / Boards
Compatible Radios / Boards
Suitable for vintage electronic equipment requiring a compatible 7406 hex inverter buffer/driver with open-collector outputs. Applicable to arcade boards, computers, industrial controls, instrumentation, test equipment, and other digital electronics where the circuit specifies a compatible 7406 device. Buyer should verify pinout, supply voltage, output requirements, pull-up arrangement, load voltage, and exact circuit compatibility before installation.
