HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: Murata's GRM series became one of the most widely used multilayer ceramic capacitor families as electronic manufacturers moved toward compact surface-mount circuit boards. Increasing capacitance within small 0603 packages allowed designers to place effective local decoupling and filtering directly beside integrated circuits and other sensitive circuitry. X7R dielectric parts such as this 2.2 uF device became especially useful in communications equipment, control systems, computers, industrial electronics, and consumer products where stable capacitance over a broad temperature range is desirable.
