ZILOG Z80A-CTC 4 MHz COUNTER TIMER CONTROLLER DIP-28 VINTAGE ARCADE IC
$14.99
Original vintage Zilog Z80A-CTC Counter/Timer Circuit in a 28-pin plastic DIP package. This classic Z80-family peripheral provides four independently programmable counter/timer channels for timing, event counting, interrupt generation and clock-rate generation in Z80-based electronic systems.
LIFECYCLE STATUS: OBSOLETE.
The Z80A version supports the 4 MHz Z80A system family and is associated with the later Zilog Z8430A designation. It interfaces directly with Z80-family processors and other Z80 peripheral devices.
The package is marked ZILOG, Z80A-CTC and 7901. The 7901 marking is consistent with an early-1979 production date code, making this an original early Z80-era component.
This listing and price are for one IC.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Zilog developed a complete peripheral family around its influential Z80 microprocessor architecture. The Z80 CTC was the dedicated Counter/Timer Circuit and provided four programmable channels that could perform event counting, interval timing, interrupt generation and clock-rate generation without requiring extensive external logic.
Z80-family processors and peripherals became widely used during the late 1970s and 1980s in arcade electronics, microcomputers, industrial controllers, communications equipment and embedded control systems. Original early-production Zilog components remain useful for period-correct repair and restoration of surviving Z80-based equipment.
Legacy or discontinued stock no longer in normal production flow. Future supply may be limited.
Pipeline quantities are informational and may change after arrival, inspection, sorting, testing, or donor teardown.
Compatible Radios / Boards
Z80 and Z80A systems requiring a Z80A-CTC or verified Z8430A-compatible Counter/Timer Circuit. Suitable for vintage arcade boards, retro computers, industrial controllers, communications equipment and other legacy Z80-based systems where the circuit documentation specifies this device. Verify pinout, clock speed and board requirements before installation.
RF Boneyard Bench Notes
Not electrically tested. Visual inspection shows readable original Zilog markings and an intact DIP-28 package. Pins show evidence of previous installation or removal and should be inspected and carefully aligned before installation.
