ZILOG Z80A-SIO/0 4 MHz SERIAL I/O CONTROLLER PURPLE CERAMIC DIP-40 GOLD PIN VINTAGE IC
$39.99
Original vintage Zilog Z80A-SIO/0 Serial Input/Output controller in a distinctive purple ceramic DIP-40 package with metal lid and gold-colored leads. This Z80-family peripheral IC was designed for serial communications in Z80-based computer, control, communications, industrial, and other microprocessor systems.
LIFECYCLE STATUS: OBSOLETE.
The Z80A version is associated with 4 MHz Z80-family systems. Device markings include Z80A-SIO/0 and 7847W. The 7847 marking appears consistent with a 1978 production date code, making this an early-period Zilog component from the original Z80 era.
This device is a Z80 serial communications peripheral and is not the Z80 CPU itself. For arcade restoration, use only where the original game board, schematic, or service documentation specifies the Z80 SIO/0 or a verified compatible device.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Zilog developed the Z80 family during the 1970s, and the architecture became widely used across early microcomputers, industrial controllers, communications equipment, embedded systems, and numerous coin-operated and arcade-era electronic platforms. The Z80 SIO family provided programmable serial communications capability for systems built around the Z80 processor architecture.
Early ceramic Zilog components with gold-colored leads are particularly interesting for period-correct restoration, vintage computer repair, arcade-era electronics collections, and preservation of original late-1970s equipment.
Legacy or discontinued stock no longer in normal production flow. Future supply may be limited.
Pipeline quantities are informational and may change after arrival, inspection, sorting, testing, or donor teardown.
Compatible Radios / Boards
Z80-family systems requiring a Z80A-SIO/0 serial input/output controller. Suitable for vintage computer, industrial, communications, embedded, and arcade repair applications only where the original circuit specifies this device or a verified compatible Z80 SIO/0 variant. Verify pinout, clock requirements, board revision, and circuit compatibility before installation.
