HISTORICAL:
Panasonic traces its origins to 1918, when Konosuke Matsushita established the business that eventually developed into one of Japan's best-known electronics manufacturers. Over the following century, Panasonic expanded far beyond consumer products into the manufacture of industrial and electronic components used in communications equipment, automotive systems, instrumentation, control electronics, and countless other electronic assemblies.
The ERJ family represents Panasonic's long involvement in miniature surface-mount resistor technology. As electronic manufacturing shifted away from through-hole construction toward automated high-density PCB assembly, chip components such as the ERJ series became fundamental building blocks of modern electronics.
A zero-ohm resistor is electrically intended to act as a jumper rather than provide meaningful resistance. Packaging that jumper in the same standardized SMD form as conventional resistors allows manufacturers to place conductive links using normal pick-and-place machinery instead of installing separate wire jumpers.
