The original distributor packaging identifies manufacturer KEMET and manufacturer part number C0805C101J5GACTU. The package is marked with date code 1812, RoHS YES, and country-of-origin code MX. The original printed description identifies the device as a 100pF, 50V, C0G, ±5%, 0805 ceramic capacitor.

C0G, also traditionally referred to as NP0, is one of the most electrically stable ceramic capacitor dielectric classes. Unlike high-capacitance Class II materials such as X5R and X7R, C0G/NP0 is selected when capacitance stability, low loss, predictable temperature behavior, and low dielectric aging are important.

That makes this 100pF value useful in RF and communications electronics where small capacitance values often appear in tuned circuits, coupling networks, filtering, oscillator sections, impedance-matching networks, feedback circuits, timing networks, test equipment, and other frequency-sensitive circuitry.

For radio repair and RF experimentation, 100pF is a very common working value. Depending on circuit design, capacitors in this range can appear in RF coupling paths, oscillator sections, VCO and PLL support circuitry, filters, bypass networks, transistor stages, detector circuits, IF sections, frequency-dependent feedback networks, and general signal-conditioning circuitry.

The 0805 package provides a useful compromise between compact PCB area and practical bench handling. It remains small enough for dense modern circuitry while being considerably easier to inspect and manually rework than extremely small chip sizes such as 0402 or 0201.

The exact C0805C101J5GACTU remains an active-production KEMET component rather than an obsolete device. This RF Boneyard offering is therefore priced as useful small-quantity named-manufacturer service stock rather than as a scarcity or discontinued-component item.

HISTORICAL:

KEMET traces its corporate history to 1919, giving the company more than a century of involvement in electronic materials and component manufacturing. Over its history, KEMET developed into one of the major international names associated with capacitor technology and passive electronic components.

Capacitors were crucial to radio long before surface-mount technology existed. Early broadcast receivers, communications equipment, military radios, transmitters, oscillators, and test instruments relied heavily on mica, paper, air-variable, and ceramic capacitors for tuning, coupling, bypassing, filtering, and frequency control.

Ceramic capacitors became especially valuable as electronic equipment moved toward higher frequencies and smaller physical construction. Their compact dimensions and useful high-frequency characteristics made them common throughout radio and television equipment, communications systems, instrumentation, and eventually solid-state electronics.

Early ceramic capacitors were usually disc, tubular, or molded leaded components. As printed circuit boards became denser and automated manufacturing expanded, component manufacturers increasingly developed rectangular chip versions that could be supplied on tape and reel for automatic placement.

The multilayer ceramic capacitor, or MLCC, was a major development in this progression. Instead of using a single pair of electrodes, MLCC construction places multiple alternating conductive electrode layers inside a ceramic body. This allows useful capacitance to be achieved in an extremely compact monolithic component.

Surface-mount technology became increasingly dominant during the late twentieth century. Standardized packages such as 1206, 0805, 0603, 0402, and smaller sizes allowed automated pick-and-place machinery to populate printed circuit boards at speeds impossible with traditional hand-inserted leaded components.

The 0805 package became particularly popular because it provides a good balance between component density and practical assembly. It is found throughout communications equipment, industrial controls, automotive electronics, consumer products, instrumentation, test equipment, and modern radio circuitry.

C0G/NP0 ceramic dielectrics occupy a particularly important place in RF and precision electronics. Their stability makes them desirable in applications where designers cannot tolerate the larger capacitance shifts associated with many high-dielectric-constant ceramic formulations.

A 100pF C0G capacitor is therefore a classic service-bench value. While the physical package has evolved from leaded ceramic components to compact SMD chips, the underlying need for stable small-value capacitance in oscillators, filters, coupling networks, and RF circuitry remains fundamental.

In June 2020, KEMET became part of YAGEO Corporation, combining KEMET's long capacitor heritage with YAGEO's extensive global passive-component business. The KEMET name continues to be associated with capacitor and electronic-component products.

This RF Boneyard pack preserves genuine KEMET components in original distributor packaging and is well suited for technicians, radio builders, electronics restorers, engineers, experimenters, laboratory users, and repair shops that prefer identifiable named-manufacturer components over anonymous bulk SMD parts.
