HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: Motorola was one of the pioneering American semiconductor manufacturers and a major supplier of discrete RF power transistors used in communications, broadcasting, industrial electronics, and amateur radio equipment. The MRF148 belongs to Motorola's historical generation of silicon linear RF power MOSFETs designed for high-frequency power amplification.
Motorola's 1995 RF Device Data documentation describes the MRF148 as a 30W linear RF power field-effect transistor suitable for amplifier applications through 175 MHz. Its design emphasizes linear operation, intermodulation performance, and resistance to demanding load-mismatch conditions.
This particular transistor carries the original Motorola logo, MRF148 identification, and MALAYSIA country-of-origin marking. Its 9016 marking is consistent with a 1990 week-16 production date code, although that interpretation has not been independently confirmed.
The original MRF148 is distinct from the later MRF148A designation. Vintage Motorola-marked examples are of particular interest to technicians maintaining legacy RF equipment and collectors preserving historical semiconductor technology.

Designed for RF amplifier applications involving industrial, commercial, amateur radio, and vintage communications equipment.
Potential replacement candidate for the SD2918 RF driver transistor in certain Yaesu FTDX9000 and FTDX5000 repair applications.
The related MRF148A has reportedly been successfully used by a radio technician as an SD2918 substitute in an FTDX9000, including subsequent transmitter alignment.
The original MRF148 offered here has not been independently verified in either Yaesu model. Technicians must verify package configuration, gate and drain connections, capacitances, bias requirements, RF gain, and service-manual compatibility before substitution.
Professional alignment and bias adjustment may be required following installation.

BENCH TEST ASSESSMENT:
PASS — Preliminary low-current semiconductor identification and switching checks.
The analyzer successfully identified the transistor as an N-channel enhancement-mode MOSFET and measured gate-controlled conduction consistent with the expected device type.
No obvious drain-source short circuit or gate short was indicated during preliminary DCA75 testing.
Reported gate leakage was 0µA at the analyzer's measurement conditions.
The measured switching voltages are consistent with the general gate-threshold characteristics of this MOSFET family. The analyzer's low-current transconductance and on-resistance measurements cannot be directly compared with Motorola's higher-current datasheet test conditions.
High-voltage breakdown, full-power RF output, RF gain, linearity, high-voltage leakage, and operation under transmitter load have not been tested.
This is an individually electrically checked vintage donor-pull component, not a guaranteed fully RF-qualified device.
